The project was started as part of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. The podcast episodes are written, recorded and produced by people around the world.

Astronomy Cast is a weekly educational non-profit podcast discussing various topics in the field of astronomy. The specific subject matter of each episode shifts from week to week, ranging from planets and stars to cosmology and myth-busting.

Are We Alone? From amoebas to androids to antimatter, Are We Alone weaves together humour and compelling interviews into themed programmes about the biggest ideas in evolutionary biology, genetics, paleontology, technology, and physics – as well as cosmology and astronomy.
